Kafta Tacos

These kafta tacos are definitely not traditional, but they’re such a fun and easy idea. Juicy seasoned kafta is cooked right on small pita breads, then topped with a fresh salad and creamy tahini dressing for the best bite.

Instructions

  1. Make the kafta mixture
In a food processor or by finely chopping, prepare the onion, red bell pepper, garlic, and parsley. Add them to a bowl with the ground beef, olive oil, salt, paprika, black pepper, and allspice. Mix everything together well.
  2. Prepare the salad
In another bowl, combine the chopped onion, tomatoes, parsley, and chilies if using. Add the olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and sumac, then mix well and set aside.
  3. Make the tahini dressing
In a bowl, whisk together the tahini, ice-cold water, and lemon juice until smooth and creamy. Adjust the lemon or water as needed for your preferred consistency.
  4. Assemble the pita kafta tacos
Spread a thin layer of the meat mixture onto one side of each small pita bread. Do not make it too thick so it cooks through properly.
  5. Cook the tacos
Heat a little olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Place the pita down meat side first and cook for about 5 minutes. Flip and cook for another 3 minutes on the other side until the meat is cooked through and the pita is golden.
  6. Finish and serve
Remove from the heat and top with the salad and tahini dressing. Serve right away
