Nashville Hot Mozzarella Sticks

Ingredients(serves 4)

  • For the Mozzarella Sticks

  • 2 eggs
  • Flour
  • Breadcrumbs
  • 1 mozzarella block
  • For the Breadcrumb Seasoning
  • 1 tbsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • For the Nashville Hot Oil

  • 1 tbsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup hot oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare the coating stations
In one bowl, whisk the eggs. In a second bowl, add the flour. In a third bowl, combine the breadcrumbs with cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Cut the cheese
Cut the mozzarella block into stick-shaped pieces.
  3. Coat the mozzarella sticks
Dip each mozzarella stick into the flour, then the egg, then the seasoned breadcrumbs. Repeat the flour, egg and breadcrumb steps one more time for a thicker coating.
  4. Freeze
Place the coated mozzarella sticks on a tray and freeze for at least 1 hour before frying. This helps keep the cheese from melting too quickly.
  5. Fry
Heat oil in a pot or deep pan. Fry the mozzarella sticks until golden and crispy, then remove and place them on a paper towel-lined plate.
  6. Make the hot oil
In a small bowl, combine the cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, brown sugar, salt, and hot oil. Mix well.
  7. Finish
Brush the seasoned hot oil over the fried mozzarella sticks while they’re still hot.
  8. Serve
Serve right away while they’re hot and melty inside.
